This Latina native hales from Windsor CT and the proud daughter of parents who moved from Puerto Rico to Hartford CT is poised to take the media world by storm!

sabrinariveraEquipped with an astonishing 4.0 GPA, Sabrina is poised and ready to make her mark. Her motivation for pursuing communication with an emphasis in journalism came from many different experiences throughout her life. In talking to Sabrina about her drive in this competive field she said “having taken several television production classes in high school, I found a love for the newsroom and its fast-paced environment.” She continues by saying “it became clearer about my major when contacted by the NASA Office of Research Integration to produce educational video content for classrooms.” How cool is that?

Sabrina didn’t stop there; she mentioned that when summer came around she was grateful to work with younger children as a camp counsellor for her local television station. All of these opportunities seemed to be signs directing her into the field that she has always been destined to work in.

Sabrina keeps her skills sharp by being part of the Student Television Network and Windsor Community Television. Realizing the importance of having mentors in her life has always been important to Sabrina; she quickly credits her television production teacher, Jeffrey Goodin, who noticed the potential that she had in video production and helped her to explore the many opportunities in the field. Sabrina also credits her AP United States Government teacher, Christopher Todd, for helping her to realize her passion for political science that she now hopes to pursue as a minor. Last but certainly not least as Sabrina said “my theater director, Susan Jackson, pushed me beyond my limits on stage, which translated into her achieving academics and other aspects of my life.”

Just think 5 year from now you could also see Sabrina Rivera as a news anchor or producer of a daily morning news station. If Sabrina had her way, she would like the show to focus on the current political landscape and create a healthy dialogue between her and her viewers.

Remember the name Sabrina Rivera a true “Ethnic GEM in the Making” in the field of Communications and Journalism!
