August Was “National Black Business Month” Let’s Continue To Support !

Every August, Black business owners acknowledge National Black Business Month.

Throughout the month of August, the experiences, barriers, and contributions of Black business owners are celebrated within the Black community.

National Black Business Month was founded in 2004 by Frederick E. Jordan and John William Templeton to highlight the challenges Black entrepreneurs experience with funding, operating, and sustaining businesses.

The annual observance is a call-to-action (CTA) for local government officials, community leaders, and investors to focus their efforts on creating inclusive environments where black-owned businesses can not only survive, but thrive.

One survey found that Black-owned small business owners are happier, more likely to be Gen Xers, and are motivated by the freedom of entrepreneurship.

Although Black-owned businesses still face many challenges, the outlook is overwhelmingly positive. Contributing to this positivity are the many current social justice movements emphasizing the need to support Black-owned businesses.
